'Angels' To Benefit From Brandon Community Foundation Spring Coffee

Families suffering from the effects of a life-threatening disease or catastrophe benefit from the Greater Brandon Community Foundation's Angel and Junior Angel programs.

The Greater Brandon Community Foundation is set to host today, May 7, its annual spring coffee at Bell Shoals Baptist Church, a fundraiser to further the group’s mission to support those in need in the community.

Proceeds from the event, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., will benefit the foundation’s Angel program, through which people with the means to give, in terms of time and talents, help others who are going through tough times, including losses of income, spouses or health.

“Impacting Lives Over Coffee” celebrates and brings together the Brandon Foundation’s Angel Families who have received help from the Brandon Foundation Angel Program as well as the Angels and the Junior Angels, who have assisted families in need.

The Foundation Angel Program was established to help families in the Greater Brandon community who have a family member suffering from the effects of a life-threatening disease or catastrophe. The program matches individuals and families with resources that are available within the community.

Angel volunteers were honored at a recognition luncheon April 16 at Professional Accounting & Consulting Services on Pauls Drive, which is owned by the foundation’s president Anne Nymark, who founded the group with Arlene Waldron in 2003.

This is the second consecutive year that foundation members have celebrated the contributions of the group’s volunteers.

“We just made a decision that all year we focus on thanking sponsors but we also wanted to recognize the volunteers. Without them we would be nowhere,” said Rich Strehl, the foundation’s executive director. “We wanted them to know how much we appreciate them.”

The foundation is a non-profit organization founded to improve the quality of life and to help shape the community’s future by creating public awareness, developing resources and supporting initiatives that address local needs.

The foundation is reported to serve more than 50 registered charities and to have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars since its inception.

To further the group’s cause, Strehl on May 9 will be “Cooking for a Cause” at the Copper Bell Cafe, with proceeds from the lunch he helps prepare, as the celebrity chef, going to the foundation. The lunch is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at 401 South Parsons Ave.
