FHSAA Sets Tentative New Football Assignments

Ready for a Durant versus Newsome rematch? It won’t happen in the playoffs, not with the tentative new football assignments announced by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) for local schools. See your school’s assignment.

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has released tentative football state series assignments for the 2013-24 and 2014-15 seasons.

The new assignments call for Newsome and Durant to play in different regions and districts. The Durant Cougars are assigned to Class 7A (Region 2, District 7), along with Freedom, Gaither, Steinbrenner, Sickles, Tampa Bay Tech and Wiregrass Ranch (Wesley Chapel).

The Newsome Wolves are in Class 8A (Region 1, District 6), along with Alonso, Bloomingdale, Plant, Riverview and Wharton.

The Cougars, in undefeated regular season play, defeated Newsome this past season, only to lose to the Wolves in the second round of playoff action. It was the Cougars' sole loss in a record-breaking season to remember.

Below is a chart of tentatives assignments for Hillsborough's 27 public high schools. Also, a chart that shows the overall number of schools in each of the seven classes. For a full list of who plays where, visit the FHSAA online.
