Troy Shannon, 47, fatally shot his live-in girlfriend, Sherrie Boyd, 44, then turned the gun on himself, according to a preliminary ruling reported by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Homicide detectives said they believe the murder-suicide occurred some time Dec. 30-31, at 506 Coulter Road, off Bryan Road in Brandon.

Shannon and Boyd reportedly lived in a detached apartment behind his parents' home.

Deputies initially responded to the home Thursday, Jan. 3, at around 7:15 p.m., after Shannon's parents returned home and discovered the bodies, according to the report.
