The National Anthem is no easy song to tackle, but when it's sung a cappella, by a stadium full of Boston Bruins fans and visitors, every note is easy to reach and it is exactly as it should be β the vehicle that bonds a nation in time of need and remembrance.
"Bruins Fans Sing Their Solidarity," read the headline posted April 17 by Robert Mackey of The New York Times, in The Lede, which is following the aftermath of the April 15 deadly explosions at the 2013 Boston Marathon.
As Mackey noted:
Local hockey fans, not generally noted for their shy and retiring natures, and those visiting affirmed their support for the victims of the blasts with an emotionally charged a cappella performance of the national anthem.
The Boston Bruins-Buffalo Sabres match-up Wednesday, April 17, represented the first major sporting event in Boston since the bombings. According to an April 18 Washington Post report, the bombs killed three people and injured at least 176.
