As a tampa custom home builder, one of many selections that our customers make is to select their counter tops. This gives them the opportunity to select a material that pairs perfectly with their new home’s cabinets, flooring and paint choices. There are MANY options available for counter tops that all range in durability, color selection and price. So, why is it that most of our customers select granite for their counter tops?
Recently, International Granite and Stone hosted the Javic Team for a tour and educational seminar on fabrication of granite
Durability – Granite is one of the strongest materials currently being used today, and because of its’ diamond like hardness it is almost scratch proof. In addition, it is heat and stain resistant. This earth-made material is not only sleek and beautiful, but it can withstand any cooking and prepping challenges that come its way.
Price – One of the biggest misconceptions about granite is that it is cost prohibitive. The popularity and availability of granite has reduced the price in the market over time. The pricing is based on levels, with level one starting at approximately $35 per square foot. However, exotic slabs can be priced at over $90 per square foot.
Selection – The most significant reason that people select granite is because of the unique nature of the product. Each slab of granite is one of a kind! Because it is not man made, every slab is unique. This offers the customer an opportunity to select the exact color and markings they want for their custom home. A slab’s pattern may be speckled, swirled, a bold contrast of light and dark coloring or one single color. Each granite counter top’s design and cut is also unique. Water-jet cutting machines can create nearly any shape for a kitchen island.
Granite counter tops are not a trend! Because of its durability, pricing and wide range of shades and colors, it makes any kitchen truly unique. With granite’s capacity to match and complement any cabinet, sink, and appliance material, it will remain at the top of the selection list well into the future.
Javic Homes would like to thank Chris Stewart and Mark Greiner from International Granite and Stone for allowing us to visit their factory and showroom to learn about the many features of granite as well as the process of turning a slab into a beautiful counter top.
