Newly opened at the Regency Square shopping center in Brandon is the Orange Leaf Yogurt shop, which on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. offers a 20 percent-off Senior Day discount for guests ages 55 and up. At Orange Leaf, patrons "grab a cup," select a flavor, add toppings and then pay according to the treat's weight. Orange Leaf makes the distinction between "a rich and creamy traditional frozen dessert" and "an icy, bland frozen yogurt" by noting its "decadent flavors reminiscent of your childhood trips to the local dessert shop as well as fruit-based flavors that will suit even the most health-conscious individuals." Celebrating its 25th year, the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon returned to the Florida State Fairgrounds on May 16, presented by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce.
More than 1,000 people had their taste buds tickled May 16 at the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon, presented by the Greater Brandon Chambr of Commerce at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. The event, in its 25 year, featured local restaurants vying for the Best Taste award, an expo tradition. Cheddar’s Casual Café took home the award with the Tampa Bay Times winning for Best Booth and Bahama Breeze Island Grille winning Best Dessert. An estimated 1,500 people and more than 150 exhibitors showed up for the event. “It is a great event,” said Brandon’s Gerard Abbett. “I got about one-third of the way around and had to take a break for an hour because I was full.” Adam Hunt of Hunt Family Dental Care brought his entire staff …

Celebrating its 25th year, the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon returns to the Florida State Fairgrounds today, May 16. The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce takes a retrospective approach to promoting the 2013 offering.
The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce has been busy promoting its signature event, which this year celebrates its 25th year. The Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon is scheduled for today, May 16, at the Florida State Fairgrounds, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Recognizing the quarter-century milestone, chamber officials have beeen posting blogs on its Web site , including one that takes a look back at the "big hair" and "shoulder pads" that were all the rage when the event in 1989 "welcomed its very first guests through the doors of the Sheraton Tampa East Hotel. A few local watering holes are offering unique pours to celebrate.
According to the Brewer's Association, Craft Beer Week is the "Mother of All Beer Weeks." The week is designed as "the annual celebration of small and independent craft brewers, their craft beer and the American craft beer culture." The weeklong celebration will last from May 13-19. To that end two local venues are among the many offering speicals throughout the week. The Brass Tap at Westfield Brandon will be offering unique and rare beers all week long. The first new beer on draft is the Left Hand Wake Up Dead Imperial Stout, according to their Facebook page. Mellow Mushroom, 10959 Causeway Blvd., is also promoting the celebration on their website. The first of its kind in the nation, Wok Chi opens in Brandon, with a May 11 benefit for the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center.
Looking for another Wok Chi to compare to the one newly opened in Brandon? Don't look too hard. The Wok Chi at the Regency Square shopping center, which opens to the public for regular dining hours Monday, May 13, is the first of its kind. To get a preview taste, a special grand opening "community celebration" was held May 11, to benefit the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary as a Greater Brandon area fixture. At the Wok Chi benefit, restaurant founders, promoters, employees and diners talked about the store's concept, roots and menu offerings, with the words "fresh" and "authentic" used liberally.
