Summertime – the birds are chirping, the sun is bright and the mosquitoes are … biting! Did you know that 1 million people die each year from mosquito-borne diseases? No one likes those itchy, and potentially dangerous, bites but many people are opting not to use DEET and mainstream pest elimination methods.

 

This week, Mosquito Awareness Week, aims to educate the public on the impact of mosquitoes in their daily lives and the importance of mosquito control. With help from Mother Nature and family-owned pest control company Truly Nolen of Brandon, you can learn how to stay bite-free this season.

·         DIY with your pest control. Spray scents that repel mosquitoes such as lemon eucalyptus oil and coconut oil.

·         Grow your garden! Our top five mosquito-repellent plants —  rose-scented monarda, lime basil, catnip, sacred basil and thyme.

·         It works for vampires … and mosquitoes? Eating garlic will make you seem less tasty to a hungry bug.

·         Keep your home from becoming a breeding ground: eliminate standing water, clear away extra foliage and treat swimming pools year round.
