University Area CDC Hosts Student Production of The Wizard of Oz

TAMPA, Fla. – (May 5, 2014) – Follow the Yellow Brick Road with the students of DeArmon Creative Arts School & Theater (C.A.S.T.) in their production of the classic fantasy, The Wizard of Oz May 8, 9 and 10, at the University Area Community Development Corporation’s (UACDC) Community Center Complex, located at 14013 North 22nd Street in Tampa. 

“At the UACDC, we work to improve the economic, educational and social levels of University Area residents and we are thankful to DeArmon C.A.S.T. for choosing our facility for its production of The Wizard of Oz,” said UACDC’s Director of Development Ronnie Oliver. “With 95 percent of our area’s residents below the poverty level, funds from our facility rentals help to provide youth programs, adult education and resource assistance, free of charge.”

One of America’s best-known stories in American pop culture, The Wizard of Oz follows the adventures of Dorothy Gale after she is swept away from her Kansas farm by a cyclone. After landing in the magical land of Oz, Dorothy embarks on a thrilling journey alongside the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.dearmoncast.com

The University Area Community Center Complex is a 50,000-square-foot multi-purpose center that is the focal point of the community while providing critical services to thousands of residents.  It contains classrooms, community rooms, a fitness center, gymnasium and playground as well as a performance stage along with music, art and dance studios.
