5 Things To Know Today (April 2): Nam Knights Haley House Fundraiser, Spring Jubilee and More

Fundraising and live theater continues this weekend in Brandon with the St. Stephen Spring Jubilee and the Nam Knights Westside Fifth Annual Pig Roast to benefit the Haley House Fund. Also on tap, the Renaissance Festival in Tampa, “The Rocky Horror Show” at Winthrop and a poker fundraiser for the Pink Dragon Ladies Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team.

  • Closing night is tonight for “The Rocky Horror Show” at the Barn Theatre at Winthrop. Show time is 8 p.m. and the production is not recommended for children under the age of 13. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for seniors, military and students with identification. Note, this is not “shadow theater,” meaning this is a live production and audience participation is not allowed. The show is staged by The Frenzie – Life Theatre community theater company based in Brandon.
  • The St. Stephen Spring Jubilee is underway through 11 p.m. on the grounds of St. Stephen Catholic School, 10424 St. Stepen Circle, Riverview, off Boyette Road.
  •  The Fifth Annual Pig Roast Fundraiser to benefit the Haley House Fund and law enforcement charities is from noon to 5 p.m. at the Winthrop Pole Barn between Watson and Providence roads off Bloomingdale Avenue. The event is run by the Nam Knights Westside motorcycle club, whose mission is “to honor the memory of American Veterans and Police Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, to assist Veterans and Police Officers in their time of need and to promote community awareness through sponsorship and participation in various fundraising events.” Tickets cost $15 at the door. Live music, food, beverages, vendors, raffles, giveaways and more.
  • Don't forget to stop by O'Brien's Bar and Grill, 721 Lumsden Road, Brandon, for some early afternoon poker fun in support of a great cause! The event features food and drinks, local vendors and loads of prizes and giveaways for players with the best and worst hand. All proceeds will benefit the Pink Dragon Ladies Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team.
  • The 2011 Bay Area Renaissance Festival continues its theme weekends with Wonders of the World, featuring local Middle Eastern and Asian vendors. Enjoy food, wine, and multicultural entertainment throughout the day along with arm wrestling, dancing, juggling and egg roll eating contests for all ages. The festival takes place at the Museum of Science & Industry in Tampa.
