Idol Contestants Prep for Momentum Festival Start

This weekend's Momentum Festival features Brandon Idol and Brandon Idol Teen contests at the Brandon Elks Lodge today, April 30.

Contenders are gearing up for the 10th Annual Brandon  Idol contest that gets underway today, April 30, at 1 p.m. for youth and at 7 p.m. for adults. The public is invited to attend both contests at the Brandon Elks Lodge.

This year’s benefiting charity is  the “Give a Kid a Chance” campaign, through which kids in financial need get the money they need to attend summer day camp at the Brandon Family YMCA. To send one kid to camp for the entire summer costs $750.

"It's a bunch of fun, it's a bunch of great singers and it's a bunch of great entertainment for charity," Dave Loebig told the Bloomingdale Patch, about the ever-evolving idol contest.

Loebig has been with the effort since Brandon Idol launched a decade ago as a one-time event on behalf of Arlene Waldron in her successful bid to become that year's honorary mayor of Brandon.

Brandon Idol Teen contestants will compete in one of two categories: ages 10-13 and ages 14-17.
