Get Out: Weekend Events in Brandon and Beyond

A yard sale, hospital open house and free back-to-school immunizations are all on tap this weekend.

Brandonites will celebrate at an open house the newly renovated and expanded Women’s Center at Brandon Regional Hospital while neighbors looking for a good deal will shop at the latest monthly thrift sale at the Emergency Care Help Organization.

Parents can get a deal on back-to-school physicals and immunizations and the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association invites heat-tired Floridians to get inside and feast on the arts.

STAY COOL INDOORS ARTFEST

When/Where: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Aug. 6, , 619 Vonderburg Drive.
Why Go: Up to 30 artists featured with a variety of artwork for sale. For the kids, a face painter and box lunch, for $3.50. Get an early start on holiday shopping, with cards, jewelry, paintings and more available for sale. Support your local artists in return.
Cost: Free.

FREE BACK TO SCHOOL PHYSICALS AND IMMUNIZATIONS


When/Where: 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Aug. 6, Walden Lake Medical Arts Center, 1601 West Timberlane Drive, Plant City.
Why Go: The Back to School Coalition of Hillsborough County is calling all school-aged children to come out for free immunizations, with free physicals for those entering Florida schools for the first time. ECHO MONTHLY CHARITY THRIFT SALE

When/Where: 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Aug. 6, Emergency Care Help Organization, 507 N Parsons Ave.
Why Go: The open house will include representatives of local physician practices and local businesses that serve women and children. There will also be activities for children who will also receive a free gift at the event. Call: 813-685-0935.

BRANDON REGIONAL HOSPITAL WOMEN'S CENTER OPEN HOUSE

When/Where: 9-11 a.m., Aug. 6, , 119 Oakfield Drive.
Why Go: The open house will include representatives of local physician practices and local businesses that serve women and children. There will also be activities for children who will also receive a free gift at the event. Call: 813-653-1065.

COMPUTER BASICS

When/Where: 10:30–11:30 a.m., Aug. 6, Brandon Regional Library, 619 Vonderburg Drive.
Why Go: Discover the basic parts of a computer and understand the basic vocabulary. Learn what you can do with a computer and gain a better understanding of the Library’s computer class offerings. Call: 813-273-3652.

SATURDAY NIGHT SWING DANCE

When/Where: 7–11 p.m., Aug. 6, , 610 Oakfield Drive.
Why Go: Strap on your dancing shoes and let loose to the sounds of Big Band, jazz and oldies hits. Experienced or a novice, this event is open to all skill levels. Call: 813-966-4788.

SPECIAL NEEDS SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN, TEENS

When/Where: 10:15-1:30 a.m., Aug. 7, , 216 North Parsons Ave.
