GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview April 5-7

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Brandon area.

Casting Call

A casting director will be auditioning for parts for  a feature film Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m. at Music Showcase, 402 Oakfield Dr., Brandon. Nancy McBride from ReelKasting LLC in Florida will discuss the acting industry as well as conduct auditions. Young actors should come prepared to perform a monologue and/or commerical and, if possible, bring a resume and head shot. This is a free event. 

Kiwanis Club Poker Run

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon is partnering with Joshua House and Born to Ride magazine to host the first Charity Motorcycle Poker Run Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Uncle Mike’s Smokehouse Grill, 9847 E. Adamo Dr. in Tampa. Registration, which begins at 10 a.m., is $20 for the first hand and $5 for each additional hand. The ride runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, beginning and ending at Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill. Following the Poker Run, there will be a party with food, music, vendors, raffles and awards to the winning riders. 

Spring Fling Fundraiser

The GFWC Brandon Service League will host its annual spring fundraiser Saturday, April 6 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Hall, 9001 Taylor Rd. in Seffner. With a '60s and '70s theme, attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite style from the two decades. The evening includes a barbecue dinner and dancing along with a live auction and special guest auctioneers Steve Otto and B. Lee Elam.

A Grape Education

Join Rolling Pin’s resident wine guy, Marc Wagner, for a one-hour guided tour of different aspects of the wine world on Saturdays at 5 p.m. Three different wines will be highlighted and a discussion of the character and complexity of the choice shall ensue. Each guided tasting will feature three wines and two cheeses, chosen for comparison and contrast. The cost is $15. Rolling Pin is located at 2080 Badlands Dr., Brandon.

Trivia Night

Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill, 9847 E. Adamo Dr., Tampa, hosts a Trivia Night each Sunday at 6 p.m.
