GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview March 22-24

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Brandon area.

Walk Like MADD

Eight-year-old Summer Rosian of Brandon, who survived a drunk-driving accident, will be among the participants in the sixth annual Tampa Walk Like MADD 5K fundraising walk Friday, March 22. Sponsored by Bright House Networks, festivities begin at 5 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of South Florida. The walk starts at 6:30 p.m.

'Godspell' to be Presented

The Village Players will present the musical, "Godspell" Friday, March 22 at 8 p.m. at the James McCabe Theater, 506 N. 5th St., Valrico. The show is based on the Scriptures of Matthew.

Scrapbooking and Stamping

Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, 604 N. Valrico Rd., Valrico, will host a scrapbooking and stamping event Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. Those attending should bring their own supplies. Proceeds from the $5 attendance fee will go to the church's mission’s team. A Sizzix Big Shot die-cutting machine with various dies and embossing folders will be available at no additional cost. 

Spring Fling Craft and Vendor Fair

Many Hands will host a Spring Fling Craft and Vendor Fair Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brandon Boys & Girls Club, 213 N. Knights Ave., Brandon. The event will include more than 50 crafters and vendors, food, live music and a bounce house.

Winthrop Arts Festival

The fifth annual Winthrop Arts Festival will take place March 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Winthrop Town Centre on Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road in Riverview. The festival will feature more than 75 artists along with hamburgers provided by the Boy Scouts, beer sold by the FishHawk-Riverview Rotary Club and entertainment by local musicians.

Celebrate Easter at Westfield Brandon

Visit Fannie May Chocolates at Westfield Brandon mall March 24 at 1 p.m. where kids will read the classic tale, “The Very Hungry Caterpilla,r” by Eric Carle and “Spot’s First Easter” by Eric Hill. Kids will also have a snack, decorate plastic Easter eggs and make their own bunny ears to wear.

Residents also are invited to have breakfast with the Easter Bunny Sunday, March 24 at 10 a.m. at California Pizza Kitchen. Tickets are $8 each and include a breakfast pizza, fruit cup and juice. Advance reservations are required at 813-685-5152.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Journey Church, 1310 John Moore Rd., Brandon, will host its community Easter Eggstravaganza Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m.

Hot Rods on the River

The High Rollers Car Club of Riverview will host the fourth annual "Rods on the River 4 Goin' Hog Wild Car Show" Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill, 9847 Adamo Dr., Tampa. In addition to more than 200 classic cars from the 1950s to the '70s, the event will include food, vendors and entertainment. Cars will be eligible for awards including Best of Show. Registration is $20.

The Plant City Chamber of Commerce is hosting its third annual Planes, Trains & Automobiles event at the Plant City Airport, 4007 Airport Rd., Plant City,  Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event includes static display aircraft and helicopters, RC plane demos, a limited number of free plane rides for kids ages 8-17 (thanks to the EAA Young Eagle Program), full-scale and model trains, classic cars, police and fire/rescue demonstrations, an opportunity for Boy Scouts to earn their Aviation and Search & Rescue merit badges, a kid’s zone, Lowe’s Kid’s Clinic, food and beverage vendors, and numerous exhibitors.

Trivia Night

Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill, 9847 E. Adamo Dr., Tampa, hosts a Trivia Night each Sunday at 6 p.m.
