GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview May 10-12

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. Here's a list of fun things to do in the Brandon area.

Vine to Wine Fundraiser

The Trey Curry Foundation will host its sixth annual Vine to Wine benefit Friday, May 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Regent, 6437 Watson Rd. in Riverview.

The event will feature gourmet food and desserts prepared by Chef Dave West of the Rolling Pin Kitchen Emporium in Brandon and fine wines provided by Premier Beverage.

In addition, those attending will have a chance to big on an array of silent auction items including a fishing trip to Key West courtesy of Bill Currie Ford; roundtrip airfare from Southwest Airlines, three days and two nights at The Resort and Club at Little Harbor in Ruskin, and framed and autographed Tampa Bay Lightning gear

Tickets are $75 and funds raised will go to A Kid’s Place in Brandon, a shelter for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, abandonment or neglect.

'Three Little Pigs' on Stage

Stages Productions will present a comedic version of the "Three Little Pigs" including a rapping Big Bad Wolf Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. Tickets are $6 for Center Place members and $7 for nonmembers.

Meet the Madagascar Characters

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 11 for a special meet-and-greet with Madagascar Characters from Busch Gardens’ new show Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation. Characters will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westfield Brandon Mall. Please note that the characters will take 30 minute breaks every 30 minutes.

Wok Chi Community Celebration

Wok Chi, the new fresh casual Chinese restaurant opening in Regency Square is hosting a grand opening community celebration to benefit the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center (BSAC). All proceeds will benefit BSAC summer camp programs for kids.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15.00 and $10.00 for children (age 12 and under). On the menu: wok-seared stir-fry, authentic dim sum, specialty beverages and a Wok Chi signature dessert. Live entertainment will also be featured. Reservations can be made by calling BSAC at 813-689-0908. Walk-ins are welcome.

Math at the Mall

Come to Dick's Court, and put your math skills to the test. Westfield Brandon is partnering with the Hillsborough County Elementary Mathematics Council to present the 10th annual Math at the Mall event.

Elementary students, grades kindergarten through fifth, will go on a mathematical scavenger hunt throughout the mall for the chance to win prizes. Plus, participating schools will host math challenge stations where students can apply their classroom skills to a real-world setting.

The first 200 students who register at the event will receive a free Westfield Family backpack and kid's meal at GrillSmith (one gift per child while supplies last). A parent's valid email address is required at registration to receive a free gift.

Chardonnay for Mother's Day

Join Rolling Pin’s wine specialist, Marc Wagner, for mini guided tours of different aspects of the wine world on Saturdays from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Rolling Pin Kitchen Emporium, 2080 Badlands Dr., Brandon. Three different wines will be highlighted and discussed. Each guided tasting will feature two cheeses chosen for comparison and contrast.

Trivia Night

Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill, 9847 E. Adamo Dr., Tampa, hosts a Trivia Night each Sunday at 6 p.m.
