Honorary Mayor Candidates Begin Month of Fundraising

This year four candidates are vying for the honorary title.

With four candidates running for honorary mayor of Brandon, there are plenty of fundraising activities to take part in this month.

The annual mayor's race, sponsored by The Community Roundtable, runs from June 1 to July 4. During that time, candidates host a variety of benefits on behalf of their designated local charities. The candidate who raises the most funds for charity is declared the winner on July 4.

Bartlett got an early jump on his fundraising campaign with an event at his Lithia home June 1 featuring a live auction, casino games and entertainment. Those attending had a chance to bid on a number of items including two suite tickets and a limo ride to see Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, a golf outing with former Chicago Bears quarterback P.T. Willis and a week's stay at the Sarasota Sands Beach Resort.

  • a Clay Shoot at FishHawk Sporting Clays, 13505 Hobson Simmons Rd. Lithia, Saturday, June 8 at 9 a.m. Registration is $75 for individual shooters and $300 for a four-person team and includes lunch, a 50/50 raffle and auction.
  • a Hawaiian Luau June 22 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, 405 Beverly Blvd., Brandon, including a pig roast, dunk tank, limbo contest, karaoke and rubber duck race. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
  • a Barnacle's Bash at Barnacle's Restaurant, 926 Providence Rd., Brandon, June 29. The cost is $40 in advance and $45 at the door and includes food, beer and wine, karaoke contests, a 50/50 drawing and silent auction.

All four candidates will participate in A Night at the Movies June 11 at 6:30 p.m. at AMC The Regency 20 in Brandon, 2496 West Brandon Blvd., Brandon, featuring the comedy, The Internship, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. The cost is $20 and includes the movie, dinner, desserts, a drink and popcorn, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.

Chiarenza's fundraisers include:

  • a Family BBQ Fundraiser Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill, 9847 E. Adamo Dr., Tampa. The cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children under 13 and includes a barbecue meal, 50/50 raffle, a Torture the Mayor Raffle and a corn hole tournament.
  • a Margaritaville Prom at The Loft, 711 W. Lumsden Rd., Brandon, June 21 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $35 each or $50 per couple and include food and drinks.
  • a Charity Fashion Show June 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Embassy Suites, 10220 Palm River Rd., Tampa. The cost is $35 and includes lunch and a fashion show featuring fashions from KriSara Designer Consigner in Winthrop Town Centre and Premier Designs Jewelry. 
  • a Charity Wine Tasting June 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at PRP Wine Warehouse, 5910 Breckenridge Parkway, Tampa, featuring wines and light snacks for $25.

Galia's fundraisers include:

  • a Ladies Dance Night Saturday, June 8 at 6 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. Tickets are $20 and include music by Big Beat Entertainment and dancing, dinner and desserts, a 50/50 drawing and raffles.
  • Ballpark Bingo Thursday, June 13 at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. The cost is $20 for 20 games and includes Ballpark food and drinks.
  • Bunco for the Arts Tuesday, June 18 at 6 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. Tickets are $20 and include dinner by Boston Market, Peach Bellini drinks, a raffle and plenty of bunco. 
  • Martinis and Masterpieces Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at Sketch and Sip in Winthrop Town Centre. The cost is $40 and includes a chance to make a hand-painted canvas with instructor Patty Sisco while enjoying chocolate martinis, heavy hors d'oeuvres, assorted sweets and cake by Jute's Box Bakery and a 50/50 raffle.
  • Dawn's Delectable Dessert Tea and Fashion Show Sunday, June 30 at 2:30 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Valrico.

Perry's events include:

  • a Clay Shoot at FishHawk Sporting Clays, 13505 Hobson Simmons Rd., Lithia, Saturday, June 15 from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $60 and includes 50 clays, lunch and prizes.
