How Many Pairs of Glasses Did the Brandon Lions Club Collect?

The Brandon Lions Club service league, No. 33 in the Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade, meets to install its new slate of officers and to recognize length of service of its members. One member received a 30-year pin.

The Brandon Lions Club installed a new slate of officers, reported on its annual drive to collect used pairs of eyeglasses for distribution to those in need and awarded service pins to members with long terms of service.

Past District Governor Susan Stathas, assisted by 1st Vice District Governor Andrew Moos, installed the Brandon Lions officers at the club’s regular meeting in July. The officers are as follows:

  • President — Robert Joseph Kuebler
  • Secretary — Patricia Stone
  • Treasurer — Alexander Rossi

Howard "Bo" Hurley received a citation from International for bringing in two new members. He also received his membership pin for 30 years of service.

Also receiving membership pins were George Newman, for 15 years, and John Elliott, for 25 years. (Elliott was not in attendance at the meeting.)

Mike Buytas, chairman of the effort to collect eyeglasses, reported that the Brandon Lion Club collected had 5,032 pairs of glasses in the year ending June 30.

It was noted, too, that the Brandon Lions Club marched in the 2012 Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade, as entry No. 33 out of 110 entries.
