Hundreds Of Books On Offer At Seffner-Mango Friends Of Library Sale

Attention bibliophiles, a local library is selling hundreds of books this weekend and it all goes to a good cause.

The Friends of the Seffner/Mango Branch Library, 411 North Kingsway Road in Seffner are running the sale.

The sale began today, Aug. 12 and runs until 6 p.m. It will kick off again tomorrow, Aug. 13 and run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All the funds from the sale will used to support programs that the county cannot or will not fund, for example, the science presentations for children held during the summer.

“You always hear how we as a country are falling beyond in math and science but we catch children early enough perhaps we can get them interested in science and engineering and go on to produce those scientists, engineers and astronauts this country needs,” said Elizabeth Belcher, president of the Seffner/Mango Friends of the Library group. “All the money we raise is going to promote those types of programs.”

The library branch also has several free upcoming programs including:

• Learn to use Facebook / Aug. 16 / 6-7 p.m. / Learn how to create a Facebook account, find, invite and become a friend.

• Money Saving Tips with Carrie the Coupon Queen / Aug. 23 / 6-7:30 p.m. / A coupon advisor helps consumers maximize savings to minimize spending. The class gives advice on saving at places like Publix, Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, and more.

• Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Discussion: Victory of Eagles by Naomi Novik / Aug. 30 / 6:30-7:30 p.m. / This novel is one of the acclaimed Temeraire series; a reimagining of the epic events of the Napoleonic Wars with an air force of dragons. This installment is the account of Napoleon's invasion of England, forcing a British retreat to Scotland, while Laurence faces with the consequences of his treason in taking the cure for the illness to the French.
