Pink Elephant, Purple Camel Gone, Construction Sign Up

What's coming to the land that once housed Shelton's nursery, and the iconic pink elephant and purple camel statutes? Think food, think fast.

A construction sign is up on the plot of land where two iconic and quirky statutes once stood, on land that once housed Shelton's Nursery — a pink elephant and a yellow-suited George Washington riding a purple camel.

The sign reads: CW Hayes Construction Company, out of Oviedo, Florida.

According to the woman who answered a call, Sept. 4, placed to the posted number, a Taco Bell is coming, "as soon as we get all the permits."

That would place the Taco Bell in between Dunkin' Donuts, at 1346 West Brandon Blvd., and Steak 'n Shake, at 1402 West Brandon Blvd.

According to Paula Yambor, owner of the statutes, she sold them to John Knight of Tampa
