Taking Stock: The Week Ahead for Greater Brandon (Aug. 15-21)

A look at the best bet for things to do and words to reflect upon as the week of Aug. 15-21 gets underway in Greater Brandon and beyond.

Standing out like two hotels on Park Avenue, the Seffner-Mango Branch Library is hosting a game of life-size monopoly this week where you become the game piece. The object of the game is to buy as many teen books as possible without landing yourself in “Library Jail.” A literary version of Orwell’s Room 101, for me that would be a room filled with Tom Clancy and romance “books.” Sounds like a fun trip. For those who prefer plays where no one bursts into song out of nowhere – that would be musicals – check out The Children's Hour, presented by The Frenzie Life Theatre this week.  Written in 1934, the drama is set in an all-girls boarding school run by two women, Karen Wright and Martha Dobie. An angry student, Mary Tilford, runs away from the school and to avoid being sent back she tells her grandmother that the two headmistresses are having a lesbian affair.

There’s more, of course — and we welcome your additions, in the comment box below — but in the meantime, here’s a to-do list to get you started:
