Artworks Winners Announced At 2013 Gallery Hop

Art lovers showed up Sept. 14 to "Find the Hidden Treasures of Greater Brandon." The gallery hop ended with the 2013 Artworks awards.

Five artists were recognized for their work at this year's "Find the Hidden Treasures of Greater Brandon gallery hop, featuring six local venues and the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association on Vonderburg Drive.

At each of the six participating locations Sept. 14, art lovers received a passport stamp symbolizing their attendance. After each visit, the passport was stamped, enabling the visitor to become eligible for a drawing of gift baskets from each of the venues: The Green Boutique, Orange Home Accessories, Pottery Patch, Beaux Arts Gallery, Sketch and Sip, The Bead Boutique and Center Place (see list below).

The drawing for those baskets was held at Center Place, where the Artworks Open Show is on display in the Mook Art Gallery through the month of September.

On sale at the gallery were hand-painted garden pots crafted by members of the Brandon League of Fine Arts, as a fundraiser for children's programs and art classes at Center Place. Pots that were not exchanged in the silent auction will be availabel for fundraiser bidding at the league's third annual Indoor Outdoor Art Fest, at Center Place on Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Among the works displayed in the Mook Art Gallery are the 2013 Artworks award-winning pieces from five artists, who were announced and given awards Sept. 14 at the gallery. This year's winners:

  • First Place — Kathy Dardin, watercolor, "Facing the Rising Sun"
  • Second Place — Anne Drewry, mixed-media, "Pierrot et Pierrette dansant"
  • Third Place — Donna Morrison, watercolor, "The Joanne"
  • Honorable Mention — James McCarthy, oil, "Garden in the Valley of Clinging Vines"
  • Honorable Mention — Judith Baizan, pastel, "Sport"

  • Drawing for the baskets from the venues. You must have a stamp from all six venues to be eligible for the drawing. Each location has a "passport" on which you can collect those stamps.
  • Silent auction for pots decorated by members of the Brandon League of Fine Arts.
