Audition Now for 'Raise the Roof'

Village Players is back with your chance to shine on stage in theater, music, dance or more. A perfect venue for students seeking to hone their thespian competition pieces.

Auditions are under way now for the annual "Raise the Roof" variety show that features students on stage in music, dance and theater.

Keeping to the spirit of community theater as a family affair, the annual event draws as well come adult acts to round out the show.

Auditions for the Fourth Annual Raise the Roof are scheduled for today, Jan. 25, and Jan. 26, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Both the auditions and the show are at the James McCabe Theater in Valrico, at 506 Fifth St., which is north of Valrico Road and State Road 60.

According to the audition listing, "perform by yourself or with a group."

Anything goes, including "singing, dancing, monologues, dancing and pantamime."

The March 9 show is for the younger performers; the March 10 show for teens and adults.

The show, directed in Brian Carpenter, with assistance from his wife, Deborah, vice president of the Village Players, received a Village Players MVP Award for the 2010 production.

At the time, Deborah Carpenter said the variety show is an opportunity for students in middle and high school to practive their theatrical performances before goign live before thespian judges in school competitions.

The show, she added, "has been a labor of love, to support students in our area, and we look forward to doing it again."
