Brandon Ballet Lecture Series Kicks Off at The Regent

The first offering in the Brandon Ballet's lecture series, featuring artistic director Octavio Martin, and excerpt performances from "The Nutcracker," is set to take place Oct. 17 at The Regent in Riverview.

The year's end approaches, which means another performance of The Nutcracker is coming from the Brandon Ballet company, in residence at The Dance Center on Bloomingdale Avenue.

This year the company is offering as well a lecture series featuring Octavio Martin, the company's newly named artistic director, along with excerpt performances from the holiday classic. The lecture series, and accompanying look at the company's professional dancers, kicks off Oct. 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at The Regent in Greater Brandon, at 6437 Watson Road in Riverview.

The aim is to teach audience members about the story of The Nutcracker and its costumes, choreography and music.

Professional ballet dancers will be available for a question-and answer-session following their performances. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask Martin questions about his new position as artistic director and what he has in store for the season.
