Children Artists Sought for Center Place Show

The first annual Community Children's Art Show is planned for July at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association in Brandon.

 

For years the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association has hosted monthly art exhibits, including one featuring the work of children in Hillsborough County schools. This year, for the first time, an art show featuring the work of children from the community at large has been added to the mix.

Entries for the Community Children's Art Show in the Mook Art Gallery at Center Place are being accepted June 24-28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Center Place, which shares space with the Brandon Regional Library in the Sandy Rodriguez Center, at 619 Vonderburg Drive.

The art show is scheduled for the month of July with an artist reception scheduled for July 11 at 6 p.m. Awards will be presented, starting at 6:30 p.m., in three age categories (4-6, 7-10 and 11-13).

Here's what you need to know to submit art work for the 2013 Community Chidren's Art Show at Center Place in Brandon:

  • The entrance fee is $5 per piece of art, or $10 for three pieces. There is a three-piece limit per artist.
  • Drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, clay and wood will be accepted.
  • Two-dimensional art work must be matted and can also be a wrapped canvas, which will need to be wired to hang. (No framing needed on wrapped canvases.) No entries large than 11-foot by 14-inches will be accepted.
  • Photography must be matted. No entries large than 11-foot by 14-inches will be accepted.
  • Three-dimensional pieces cannot be larger than 1-foot by 10-inches ad cannot weigh more than 3 pounds.
  • Two 3-by 5-inch index cards must be submitted with each work of art. Typed on the cards should be the artist's name, title of the work, artist's statement and contact phone number.
  • All art needs to be picked up at the conclusion of the exhibit, on Wednesday, July 31, by 5 p.m.
