Brandon Choral Society Set To Lift Spirits With Handel’s ‘Messiah'

The Brandon Choral Society is comprised of singers from 16 churches, including The Crossing, Bell Shoals Baptist, St. Stephen Catholic, First Baptist Church of Brandon, Bay Life,

The Brandon Choral Society returns for a fourth year with the singing of Handel’s “Messiah."

The presentation is set for Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at in Brandon. Tickets cost $10.

The choir’s all-volunteer members are from area churches, including director, Robert Romanski and assistant music director and organist, Chris Westfall.

Romanski is director of music ministries at Ruskin United Methodist Church, music director of both the Tampa Bay Opera the Mostly Pops Orchestra. Westfall is director of music ministries at St. Stephen Catholic Church.

The society includes members from Southside Baptist, Ruskin United Methodist, Lakeside Presbyterian, , , Church of Brandon, Christ the King Lutheran, Sun City Methodist, First Presbyterian, Brandon First United Methodist, Christ Community in Apollo Beach, St. Stephen Catholic, WestTown Church, Unity of Tampa, , and churches.

5 Things To Know About Handel’s “Messiah”

Handel’s “Messiah” is an English language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel.

It has a scriptural text, compiled by Charles Jennens, from the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer.

It was first performed in Dublin, Ireland on April 13, 1742.

It premiered and received its premiere in London a year later.

It has since become one of the best-known choral works.
