Closing Night for "Rent"

The Village Players and Stagedoor community theater troupes come together to stage Jonathan Larson's "Rent" at the James McCabe Theater in Valrico. The community theater production is one of the first in the state to stage the Tony award-winning musical, which also won the Pulitzer Prize. Doors open at 7:30pm.

"Rent" is based on the opera "La Boheme," by Giacomo Puccini. Larson's rock opera has a more contemporary setting, centering on a group of struggling young artists and musicians trying to survive in New York's unconventional Alphabet City, in the East Village, under the specter of HIV and AIDS. The show's message is one of hope and of living each day to the fullest; one of it's most memorable song, "Seasons of Love."

The local production is directed by Domin Pazo. The assistant director is Greg Summerall.
