More Santa Shots at James McCabe Theater

The actor playing Kris Kringle in the Village Players production of "Miracle on 34th Street" met again with young audience members eager to have a chat with Santa Claus.

The 2012 production of the Village Players production of "Miracle on 34th Street" continues today, Dec. 8, featuring Kris Kringle as Santa Claus and a courtroom full of people who have to believe.

Before the Dec. 7 production, audience members, young and old, lined up for photographs with Santa Claus, who bore a striking resemblance to community theater veteran Donald "D.G." Speirs.

For Speirs, playing Santa Claus is more than a role, more than a job, more than a way to spend the holidays. To say it's a dream to play his dream role sounds trite, but it's true. To say that he believes? Well, that's true, too.

"Miracle on 34th Street" centers on divorcee Doris Walker and her young daughter, Susan (played by Hannah Westcott), who is raised to believe that fantasy is misguided. So, when she meets Kris Kringle, the man her mother hires to replace an inebriated Santa Claus in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Susan's upbringing is put to the test — and so, too, her mother's beliefs.
