‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Opens, Movie Times and Trailer

The buzz is big for Zero Dark Thirty, found "meticulous and electrifying" by Entertainment Weekly, "exceptionally riveting," by The Hollywood Reporter and dubbed both a "crackling thriller" by The Huffington Post and a "powerhouse thriller" by Time magazine.

That's just a sampling of strong reviews for the latest flick from director Kathryn Bigelow, Academy Award-winning writer and director of The Hurt Locker, as noted on the official Sony Pictures Web site for Zero Dark Thirty.

Locally, Zero Dark Thirty, opens 10 p.m. tonight, Jan. 10, at AMC The Regency 20 in Brandon, followed by a showing at 12:01 a.m. (For show times throughout the week, see the list below.)

AMC The Regency 20 is in the Regency Square shopping center at 2496 West Brandon Blvd., across the street from the Westfield Brandon entranceway east of the Interstate 75 interchange.

Five Things To Know About Zero Dark Thirty

• It's been nominated in four categories for the 70th Golden Globes Awards — for Best Picture - Drama, Best Director (Kathryn Bigelow), Best Actress - Drama (Jessica Chastain) and Best Screenplay (Mark Boal).

• It joins the list of highly recognized films receving 85th Annual Academy Award nomintations. Zero Dark Thirty has received 2013 Oscar nominations for: Best Picture (Mark Boal, Kathryn Bigelow and Megan Ellison, producers); Best Actress (Jessica Chastain); Best Film Editing (Dylan Tichenor and William Goldenberg); Best Sound Editing (Paul N.J. Ottosson); and Best Writing, original screenplay (Mark Boal). 

• The movie chronicles the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy SEAL Team 6 in May, 2011. It's billed as "the story of history's greatest manhunt for the world's most dangerous man."

• Joseph Bradley is played by actor Kyle Chandler, well-known as coach Eric Taylor in the critically acclaimed Friday Night Lights television show, for which he received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2011, the show's final year.

• Zero Dark Thirty also stars Jason Clark, Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Ehle, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez.
