'Day of Pampering’ for Breast Cancer Awareness

Registration is suggested for the sixth annual "Day of Pampering" at the University Area Community Center on Oct. 20. The event aims to provide screenings and educate at-risk women about breast cancer prevention, detection, products, treatment

 

More than 300 women are expected to attend the sixth annual "Day of Pampering" for women at the University Area Community Center on Oct. 20. The event is free and offers health screenings, break-out workshop sessions, exhibitors and activities.

"The forum focuses entirely on educating women about prevention and early detection of breast and cervical cancer and wellness," reads an event news release.

For those who qualify, referrals for free mammograms and pap smears will be provided. All activities will be offered in both English and Spanish, with translators for other languages provided.

The event is geared toward women in need, such as in the University Area community, where "overall health is generally poor and includes high rates of obesity and diabetes, stroke and heart attack, HIV and other STDs (sexually transmitted diseases] and an infant mortality rate that is double that of the rest of Hillsborough County and the state of Florida," reads the news release.
