Barnacles Set To Close In Brandon
Word is spreading that Barnacles will be closing this week. The sports bar and restaurant is near Brandon Parkway and the Westfield Brandon mall.
Barnacles in Brandon is set to close its doors Thursday, Aug. 15, according to a Barnacles Facebook post dated Aug. 12.
"Many of you have already heard, but for those of you who haven't, Barnacles will be officially closing it's doors on Thursday night," reads the notice, which as of 5 a.m. Tuesday morning had drawn more than 125 comments and 47 likes. "We just want to say thank you to all of the wonderful customers we've had over the years. You all made the Barnacles world go round, and we couldn't have had these awesome 14 years without all of you."
Noted, too, is the hope that "those of you who can will make it out to Barnacles one last time and send us off in the best way possible, taking care of all of you!"
Barnacles is at 926 Providence Road in Brandon, just up the road from the now-vacant Borders bookstore, which had its last full day of business April 19, 2011.
Both buildings are near the Brandon Parkway and Providence Road entrance to the Westfield Brandon shopping mall, where vacant lots are for sale for commercial and office uses pending the September grand opening of the Gornto Lake Road extension to Brandon Boulevard.
Barnacles, in business for 15 years, earlier this year got another competitor, when the Zapps sports bar opened in the spot vacated by a night club, next door to the shuttered-up Borders.
In addition to attracting sports enthusiasts, Barnacles had a meeting room that was used often by community groups, including the East Hillsborough County Democratic Club.
