Brandon's 'A New You Pink Boutique' Aims to Help Breast Cancer Fighters

A New You Pink Boutique celebrates in November its first year in Brandon, at 106 West Robertson St. The small business aims to meet the needs of women battling breast cancer.

Breast cancer may be an ugly disease. But, as far as sisters Lisa and Carol Poole of Brandon are concerned, there's no reason for breast cancer patients to feel unattractive while they're fighting the disease.

That's the premise behind A New You Pink Boutique in Brandon, at 106 West Robertson St.

Lisa Poole, who is waging her own battle against breast cancer, was headed to a fitting for a prosthesis in Clearwater when she mentioned to her sister that she wished there was a place for breast cancer patients closer to home.

After doing some research, the Pooles decided to open the boutique to meet the needs of local women battling breast cancer.

In the year since the boutique opened, it's not only become a resource for women with breast cancer but offers a support system for the women.

The pink-painted boutique is decorated with inspirational and encouraging sayings. Here, women can shop for hats, turbans, wigs, T-shirts, sleepwear, artificial eyebrows, mastectomy bras and pre- and post-surgical garments.

Kathy Stephan, a certified orthotic-mastectomy fitter, is on hand to offer individualized service.

A New You Pink Boutique accepts many health insurance plans, some of which pay for prostheses, bras and sometimes wigs.

However, for those who can't afford the products, the Pooles have started an Angel Closet to provide barely used hats, bras and wigs. Donations are welcome.

The Pooles say the boutique is geared to helping women with breast cancer feel good about themselves.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
