Celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Brandon

It's "good to be green" in Brandon for St. Patrick's Day, with special events scheduled at area pubs and eateries, featuring outdoor events, live music, special meal and drink prices and more.

 

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations begin tonight for Greater Brandonites wanting to celebrate the Irish in all of us.

Indeed, for some businesses, the festivities have already begun, most notably with the at on March 11.

“The more we can celebrate our Irish heritage the better it is,” said Sean Rice, co-owner of O’Brien’s.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the festivities on tap in Brandon (and please feel free to add your thoughts and additions in the comment box below, plus vote in our Readers' Choice poll for the ):

  • The pub on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, is hosting a “Sexy Miss Patty” contest, with a $100 winner announced at 6 p.m.  and at midnight. The night before, from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., the pub is hosting an outdoor pre-party, featuring a live band, the Single Malt Brothers, and special drink prices. Fox & Hounds is at 229 East Brandon Blvd.

  • Kids eat for free tonight, March 15, for family night, with Irish food specials including corned beef and cabbage, “bangers and mash” and fish and chips. An “Evening of Irish Folk & Rock Music,” featuring ballads and Bodhran Irish music, is from 6-9 p.m., followed by UZOO, “the authentic U2 tribute band,” from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Appetizers are $5 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Special drink prices are on tap March 16, as well as a fish and shrimp fry platter for two, for $16.00. Cellfish to perform on the main stage and DJ Mike Sneed on the outdoor “Paddy’O.”
  • The grand St. Patrick’s Day celebration kicks off  March 17 at 11 a.m., with featured Irish dishes. Set to perform: Irish dancers and Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Live outdoor concert, featuring Latraia and The All Starz, kicks off at 7 p.m. The event runs through 2 a.m. March 18. Later that day, an Irish brunch, with bloody Mary’s, is set to be served at 11 a.m. It’s also “Sunday Funday on the Paddy’O” with Vega and “All-Request Night” with DJ Mike Sneed.

  • Doors open St. Patrick’s Day at 10:30 a.m., with an Irish menu served all day. Live rugby, Ireland versus England, will be aired at 1 p.m. Live Irish music, with Bob Vesey, is scheduled from 2 p.m. to “late.” Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums will perform at 7 p.m., followed by Irish dancers at 8:30 p.m. “Save the Radio,” billed as “Tampa’s No. 1 Irish American rock band,” is set to perform outdoors, under a tent, staring at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover charge after 4 p.m. Additional parking is available in the Petsmart parking lot.
  • At Tadpoles, “it is easy being green,” with a no-cover party in the parking lot set to run from 2-11 p.m. on March 17. Live music, food and beverages are on tap for the pub and eatery at 115 E. Brandon Blvd.
