O'Brien's 'Ken-Ducky-Derby' To Benefit Miles for Moffitt Fundraiser

With its May 5 duck races for kids and adults, O'Brien's Irish Pub hopes to rasie a good chunk of change for its particiaption in the Miles for Moffitt fundraiser, May 12, at the University of South Florida.

 

Sean Rice, a co-owner of the O'Brien's Irish Pub restaurant in Brandon, said it is a no-brainer why they Moffit Cancer Center is the benefactor of O'Brien's Ken-Ducky-Derby fundraiser May 5.

"One too many of us have been touched by cancer," he said. "Moffitt is just an amazing institution. Whatever we can do, every little bit helps."

O'Brien's has a team in the upcoming Miles for Moffitt fundraiser May 12 at the University of South Florida.

The restaurant is looking for people to walk with their "Fire-Breathing Rubber Duckies" team. The deadline to register is May 6 at midnight. Sign up and pay the $25 registration at Miles for Moffit online or drop by O'Brien's to do so there.

The fundraiser today, May 5, at O'Brien's kicks off with kid's games and activties from 3 to 5 p.m., including a Kid's Ducky Derby. On the line is an Xbox 360, to the first-place finisher. Also for the kids, face-painting, a bounce house and dunk tank.

Registration for the adult duck races start with registration, from 5 to 6 p.m. The first two races are at 6 and 6:20 p.m. Following a break to watch the Kentucky Derby live on television, three more ducky races will be run, at 6:40, 7 and 7:20 p.m.

The top three ducks from each adult race qualify for the Ken-Ducky-Derby top prize, a trip for two to Las Vegas, for three days and two nights.

As of this morning, May 5, there were still some ducks available for purchase. The cost is $5.
