Patch Blogger Publishes Book on What Children Can Teach About Leadership

Riverview resident Rich Bishop explores what we can learn from our children and what our children should be learning from us in his new book, "Child-Like Leadership."

Parents spend much of their time trying to teach their children how to be who the parents think they should be, said Riverview resident Rich Bishop.

However, Bishop says, parents can learn a lot by simply observing their children.

That's the basis of his new book, "Child-Like Leadership."

The personal growth coach, Patch blogger and author believes children can teach adults how to be better leaders.

"You'll notice that there are some powerful lessons they (children) experience that we somehow forget as adults," he said. "We push aside simple lessons like sharing and making friends because we're old enough to do things our own way."

However, he believes looking at leadership from a child's perspective can make adults better leaders.

"Your child's development can become important to your own," he said.

The book grew out of Bishop's work as a coach and public speaker. The founder of the Bishop Coaching & Consulting Group, Bishop's mission is to help people develop the skills they need to become effective leaders.

He uses the principles of nationally known inspirational speaker and leadership guru John Maxwell to coach people one on one or in classroom settings.

It was Maxwell that inspired Bishop to become a personal growth consultant.

As a teen, he read Maxwell’s book, “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership." The book, he said, ignited a passion in him to help others whether they are business executives or teens.

"Child-Like Leadership" is available on Amazon as well as through Bishop's website,
