Read More Comics Treats Fans Right

Free Comic Book Day at Read More Comics in Brandon featured more than fans bargained for. A free comic book, yes, but all comic books in the store sold for $1 and artist Barry Mazzoni drew sketches for free all day.

Hours later, and after a whole lot of sketches, artist Barry Mazzoni had a ready answer for why he spent his May 5 at Read More Comics donating his skills for free on Free Comic Book Day.

“I just love doing whatever the fans and kids want,” he said. “Transformers are my specialty but I’ll do anything they want. Video-game stuff, animation, comics, it didn’t really matter at all.”

Mazzoni donated his time at Read More Comics, where owner Scott Rienbeck, for a 10th year, participated in the national Free Comic Book Day. The day, he said, is a chance to both give back to the comic book fan community and welcome more fans into the fold.
