If weight control and fitness levels aren’t reason enough, Revolution Cycle and Fitness owners Victor and Christina Giordano have 1,000 additional grounds to consider for embracing a summer of spinning.

Direct- to the-customer marketing efforts such as this give the small business owner another way, and reason, over the lean summer months, to stay connected to their customers — and they in turn to the businesses that vie for their interest.

Pegging their marketing effort to "the summer slack," the Giordanos describe it as that time of the year when there's "lots of fun, like ball games, picnics, vacations and lots and lots of food."

"We're just trying to convince people to exercise during the summer months," said Victor Giordano, in an interview.

The "big incentive" — $1,000 — is attained by being the person who spins the most from June 1 through Aug. 31. If there's a tie, the money gets split.

"All you have to do is a create an account online, buy a package, and ride on," the Giordanos note in their release.

Why You Should Embrace Indoor Cycling (or, Spinning)

Victor Giordano, co-owner of Revolution Cycle in Brandon, gives these reasons for embracing cycling:

  • “For me, personally, I lost 80 pounds,” Giordano said. “Indoor cycling helped me achieve that.” Giordano notes he can burn 500 calories in 45 minutes plus.
  • "It doesn’t batter up your body. lt’s very low impact.”
  • It appeals to a lot of different people, shapes and body sizes.”
  • “You’re working your bigger muscles all the time, your glutes, hamstrings, quad[ricep]s and calves. The bigger the muscle, the more energy it takes to move it, the more calories to burn.”
  • "It allows you to be consistent with your aerobic exercise, which is the bigger problem people tend to have,” Giordano said. Inclement weather, hot temperatures, are not an issue for indoor exercising.
  • “The environment is fun,” Giordano added. “There’s really good music, two big screen TV’s, music videos. You become friends with the people cycling next to you.” Sometimes there are sprints, Giordano said, and spinners will cheer on each other.
  • “You’re in control of the resistance or load you put on your own bike."
