Who Will Be Named Brandon’s Key Citizen of the Year?

The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce each year selects a Key Citizen of the Year, with the newest honoree scheduled to be named at the chamber's upcoming annual 2013 membership dinner.

Who will succeed Tammy Holmberg as Brandon's Key Citizen of the Year? That announcement, along with the newest named recipient of the Greater Brandon Community Leadership Award, is scheduled to be made Feb. 1, 2013, at the chamber's annual membership dinner at The Regent.

Holmberg received the 2011 Key Citizen of the Year Award, for her tireless work as a community minded business owner, with a slew of testimonials to her credit for the countless number of events she has supported through the years.

Holmberg, a former honorary mayor of Brandon, with her husband, Paul, are the owners of the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Lake Brandon Village on Causeway Boulevard. The key citizen award is given annually to a recipient chosen by past honorees.

"I didn't expect this," Tammy Holmberg said, in receiving her award last year, as noted in a video attached to the 2012 Brandon Patch report. "I just want to say thank you, and from the bottom of my heart. I just do what I do because I love people and I love my community."

This year, as in year's past, the recipient of the Key Citizen Award is chosen on the basis of his or her contributions to the progress of the Brandon community. Chamber officials note further:

Nominees should be unselfishly devoted to contributing time and effort for the betterment of the Brandon community rather than for their own personal gain. Involvement in the Brandon community must be consistent, with a minimum period of service of five years, and should be in a number of well-rounded activities, primarily in the Brandon area, with an emphasis on the immediate past year. Nominations will be kept on file for a period of three years. After that time, previous applicants need to be nominated again and submit current information.

The 2013 membership dinner is scheduled for Feb. 1 at The Regent, at 6437 Watson Road, in the southwest corner of the Winthrop community in the Greater Brandon area of Riverview, at the corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road.
