World of Beer Set For Arena Opening, Brandon Opening On Hold

The World of Beer is set to open today, Aug. 28, at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. But what about its planned opening in Brandon?

The World of Beer today, Aug. 28, is set to open for the first time in an arena setting, with its 23rd state location at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, its 46th location nationwide.

But what about the World of Beer debut in Brandon, which at one time had been set for an April 2013 opening, on Providence Lakes Boulevard, near Kohl's and LA Fitness, just south of Causeway Boulevard?

"I know that the WOB Brandon has been delayed and I apologize, but as of right now I do not even have a definite date on that," said Marissa DiPietro, a spokesperson for the chain, in an email dated Aug. 28. "As soon as I find out, I'll be sure to let you know."

Meanwhile, World of Beer officials have announced that the "beer-centric tavern boasting an extensive collection of brews from around the globe" is set to open today, Aug. 28, at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, featuring "10 different beers on tap and an inventory of canned beers as well."

"WOB at the Forum will be open during all events, with the exception of those geared towards a younger audience," notes a company announcement. In it, Beth Weber Tierney, WOB's director of marketing, notes the reasons why the forum venue was chosen.

"We have chosen to be involved with the Tampa Bay Times Forum so that we can spread WOB Culture to fans everywhere,” she said. “This is a great opportunity to appeal to all different demographics and spread awareness of our growing brand.”

Among the draughts set to be available at WOB at the Forum are Goose Island Honkers, Pilsner Urquell and Cigar City Jai Alai. Canned selections include Kona Longboard, Samuel Adams Boston Lager and Cigar City Maduro. Also on the menu: a selection of wine, craft spirits and WOB-exclusive craft cocktails, including the MargarIPA and the BeerBerry Cosmo.

World of Beer was founded in Tampa in 2007.
