5 Things To Know: Senior Day at Florida Strawberry Festival, Daylight Savings Time, Lifeguards, Tent Sale and More

We take a quick look at five things, featuring the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival, Westfield Brandon shopping mall, Daylight Savings Time and lifeguards needed at Lithia Springs Park.

Some quick things to know as the weekend approaches, with Guy Lombardo set to perform, the St. Patrick’s Day season getting underway with a family activity at Westfield Brandon, time poised to spring forward, notice for lifeguards needed and another tent sale, this one featuring art and rugs.

  1. Senior Citizens’ Day and Ride-A-Thon Day is March 10 at the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival (see related coverage below). Patrons age 60 and older get $2 off the $10 gate admission. A prize will be given away at noon following the 10:30 a.m. show of the Guy Lombardo Band on the Wish Farms Soundstage. Tickets for the drawing will be available to seniors in the stadium. Winner must be present to collect the prize. Ride-A-Thon from 3 to 11 p.m.; wristband price, $19.
  2. This month’s WFamily Fun Day activity is the “Luck of the Irish.”  Each month at the Westfield Brandon shopping mall an event for kids and parents is featured and the March 11 event will feature, among other things, a bean-bag toss and rubber-ducky game. Register to win one of four family movie packages valued at $50 apiece. The WFamily Fun Day activities take place in the Westfield Play Space, which is part of the Westfield Playtown area outside the Sears anchor. Westfield Brandon is at 459 Brandon Town Center Blvd.
  3. Quality area rugs, hand-painted oils and frames are on sale in the “Rug & Art Tent Sale” outside the Sears anchor at the shopping mall at 459 Brandon Town Center Blvd.
  4. Keep in mind that on March 13, at 2 a.m., Daylight Savings Time begins. Remember, it’s “fall back and spring ahead.” Time to set the clocks forward one hour, which means there’s one less hour to sleep in!
  5. Five part-time lifeguards are needed at Lithia Springs Park. Applicants must be high school graduates or a possess a GED high school diploma equivalency certification. Also necessary: current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification, American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification and American Red Cross First Aid Certification. Position pays $9 per hour. The 160-ace park sits on the Alafia River off Lithia Pinecrest Road between the River Hills community and FishHawk Boulevard. The park’s major attraction is a natural spring for swimming, with year-round water temperatures at 72 degrees. Application information is online.
