5 Things To Know Today (March 19): Golf, Strawberries, a Pub’s Birthday and Omelets Tomorrow

The day gets underway with two golf tournaments, a family friendly strawberry U-pick, a Brandon pub's 24th birthday and a plan for Sunday omelets.

Clear skies are a good thing for today’s annual Strawberry U-Pick in Plant City that benefits Greater Brandon 4-H clubs and food banks. Also on tap today, two charity golf tournaments and a suggestion for tomorrow’s brunch that won’t break the wallet. Happy birthday, too, to O’Brien’s Irish Pub of Brandon.

  1. The Fourth Annual gets underway today, March 19, Fancy Farms in Plant City. Pick your own for 50 cents a quart. Pre-picked strawberries sell for $1. Proceeds benefit local 4-H clubs, whose members will be on hand to help the elderly and frail to pick their own selections. Strawberries not sold will be shared will be given to area food banks.
  2. The B. Lee Elam Golf Tournament kicks off the pre-Honorary Mayor of Brandon race at the Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club in Greater Brandon. The race for charity, fun by the Community Roundtable, starts June 1. The candidate who raises the most money for charity wins the seat on July 4, before the start of the Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade, which also is run by the Community Roundtable.
  3. The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce’s golf tournament kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Summerfield Golf Course in Riverview. Event sponsors include South Bay Hospital, Tampa Electric Co. (TECO), Mosaic, Crane Tech and Superior Residences of Brandon Memory Care.
  4. Sunday brunch at the features “Omelet Madness” with nine omelets to choose from. Served with home fries or grits, fresh fruit or cinnamon apples and toast. Cost: $5.99. Copper Bell, at XX , is open 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  5. O’Brien’s Irish Pub of Brandon celebrates its 24th birthday. The pub at the corner of Lumsden Road and Kings Avenue, first opened on March 19, 1987.
