Bay Life Classic Car Show Draws Muscles, Hot Rods, Trucks and Crowd

The 2011 Sixth Annual Bay Life Classic Car Show got under way Memorial Day weekend, May 28, with a recognition of the United States Armed Forces.

"What Would Jesus Do" is the popular phrase, but what came to mind May 28 at the Bay Life Church in Brandon was another take-off of the WWJD acronym, “What Would Jesus Drive?"

 Not so sure, but humans were on hand en masse at the in Brandon on May 28 to combine faith, fun and Memorial Day remembrances with a fascination for muscles, hot rods, trucks and classics.

The Sixth Annual Bay Life Car Show had a dual purpose: to help pay for a summer mission church to Honduras — where Bay Life is building an orphanage —and to raise awareness of the church’s offerings in for the residents of Greater Brandon in Eastern Hillsborough County.

“It’s a chance to reach people who may not normally come to church,” said Matt Wenrich, a Bay Life parishioner. “It gives us a chance to talk to those people about Jesus.”

Falling on the Memorial Day weekend, the event opened with a recognition of the United States Armed Forces.

The show featured a variety of classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, trucks and exotic cars as well as a children's coloring contest, arts and crafts, stamping and scrapbooking classes and a live band.

Also on hand, the Tampa Bay Rays Street Team, to talk to teens about safe driving.
