Residents Disposing of Unused, Expired Medications at Sweetbay

Residents are taking advantage of today's National Drug Take-Back campaign to get rid of pain pills and other medications no longer used or viable.

Greater Brandon residents are taking advantage of a great way to dispose of unused and expired medication as part of the National Prescription Drug Take-Back campaign.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is sponsoring a collection site at the Sweetbay Supermarket in the Greater Brandon community of Valrico, at 2535 East State Road 60.

More extensive Brandon Patch coverage is forthcoming, but word here is to alert residents that neighbors are taking advantage of this opportunity, which runs until 2 p.m. today, April 30.

According to reporter Kevin Brady, who was at the site earlier today, a good number of pills and other medications have been collected by a steady stream of residents.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back campaign sponsored nationally by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). More than 4,700 sites nationwide are participating.

The DEA reports that at last year’s first-ever take-back day, Americans on Sept. 25 turned in more than 242,000 pounds of prescription drugs for safe and proper disposal.
