Cheapest Gas in Brandon: June 21 Report

Tampa, Florida, state and national gas prices and trends included in this report on Greater Brandon prices in Hillsborough County. Prices today are the lowest in the area since Brandon Patch first reported on cheapest gas, in March.

The search is on for the cheapest gas you can find and today’s best bet in Brandon might be these top three lowest prices found at GasBuddy.com on June 21 at 4:30 p.m.

The site, updated daily with visitor reports, at this reporting for regular gasoline lists 17 stations for Brandon, with prices ranging from $3.44 to $3.51 per gallon.

For premium gas, prices ranged from $3.66 to $3.99 per gallon, based on reported visitor updates for eight stations. (The second-to-highest prices in each category were 3.45 and 3.71, respectively.)

For midgrade fuel, prices ranged from $3.58 to $3.89, with reports from 10 stations. (The second-to-highest price was $3.62.)

For diesel fuel, prices ranged from $3.79 to $3.89, with reports on seven stations.

In the 13 prior “Cheapest Gas” postings  filed by Brandon Patch, the lowest price for regular gas was reported March 30 ($3.45), which was a cent higher than today's lowest price. The highest price for regular gas reported to date: $3,79, on May 10.

Prices across the states, as of June 21, ranged from 3.348 in South Carolina (where prices were down) to 4.113 in Alaska (where prices were down). Washington D.C. was next highest at 4.038, followed by Hawaii (4.020) and Connecticut (3.964).

Florida placed 20th on the list from lowest- to-highest priced gasoline. Florida was at 3.561 (down from 3.604 on June 15 and 3.909 on May 10). 

Nationwide, prices rose in only two places (Idaho and Washington D.C.) and held steady in seven states (Alabama, Kansas, Delaware, Maryland, North Dakota, Maine and Montana) and fell in all others, including Florida.

Tampa prices were dropping (3.511, down from 3.554 on June 15 and 3.782 on May 20) while the Florida state average was dropping (3.561, down from 3.604 on June 15 and 3.824 on May 20). Nationwide, the average was reported at 3.642, down from 3.693 on June 15 and  3.867 on May 20).

According to a map credited to the  American Petroleum Institute, gasoline taxes as of January 2011 in 16 states ranked in the highest category, "greater than 48.1." The chart looks at the combined local, state and federal taxes in cents per gallon. Florida was in that highest category (52.8). Ranking at the top and bottom of the list in that category were California (66.1) and Oregon (49.4).

For regular gas locally, the cheapest prices reported were:

  • $3.44 at Shell, 934 Lithia Pinecrest Road and Lumsden Road
  • $3.45 at Murphy USA, 1110 East Brandno Blvd. (near Mt. Carmel Road)
  • $3.46 at RaceTrac, 10324 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road
  • $3.46 at Sam's Club, 2021 West Brandon Blvd. (near Providence Road)
  • $3.46 at Costco, 10921 Causeway Blvd. and Interstate 75
  •  $3.46 at Sunoco, 405 East Brandon Blvd. and Lithia Pinecrest Road
  • $3.46 at RaceTrac, 810 East Brandon Blvd. and North Oakwood Avenue

For regular gas locally, the highest prices were:

  • $3.51 at 7-Eleven, 11015 West Bloomingdale Ave. and Providence Road
  • $3.49 at BP, 10323 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road
  • $3.49 at Shell, 1901 West Brandon Blvd. and Providence Road
