Cheapest Gas in Brandon: June 30 Report

Tampa, Florida, state and national gas prices and trends included in this report on Greater Brandon prices in Hillsborough County. Prices today are the lowest in the area since Brandon Patch first reported on cheapest gas, in March.

The search is on for the cheapest gas you can find and today’s best bet in Brandon might be these top three lowest prices found at GasBuddy.com on June 30 at 1:45 p.m.

The site, updated daily with visitor reports, at this reporting for regular gasoline lists 15 stations for Brandon, with prices ranging from $3.34 to $3.41 per gallon.

For premium gas, prices ranged from $3.56 to $3.89 per gallon, based on reported visitor updates for nine stations. (The second-to-highest prices in each category were 3.36 and 3.63, respectively.)

For midgrade fuel, prices ranged from $3.34 to $3.79, with reports from 15stations. (The second-to-highest price was $3.56.)

For diesel fuel, prices ranged from $3.73 to $3.79, with reports on 10 stations.

In the 15 prior “Cheapest Gas” postings  filed by Brandon Patch, the lowest price for regular gas was reported June 26 ($3.40). The highest price for regular gas reported to date: $3,79, on May 10.

Prices across the states, as of June 30, ranged from 3.262 in South Carolina (where prices were holding steady) to 4.073 in Alaska (where prices were up). Hawaii was next highest at 4.017, followed by Washington D.C. (3.930) and Connecticut (3.900).

Florida placed 20th on the list from lowest- to-highest priced gasoline. Florida was at 3.480 (down from 3.514 on June 29 and 3.909 on May 10). 

Nationwide, prices rose in 15 places and held steady in 16 states and fell in all others, including Florida.

Tampa prices were dropping (3.424, down from 3.458 on June 26 and 3.782 on May 20) while the Florida state average was dropping (3.480, down from 3.514 on June 30 and 3.824 on May 20). Nationwide, the average was reported at 3.562, down from 3.590 on June 30 and  3.867 on May 20).

According to a map credited to the  American Petroleum Institutegasoline taxes as of January 2011 in 16 states ranked in the highest category, "greater than 48.1." The chart looks at the combined local, state and federal taxes in cents per gallon. Florida was in that highest category (52.8). Ranking at the top and bottom of the list in that category were California (66.1) and Oregon (49.4).

For regular gas locally, the cheapest prices reported were:

  • $3.34 at Murhphy’s USA, 1110 East Brandon Blvd., hear Mt. Carmel Road
  • $3.51 at Shell, 934 Lithia Pinecrest Road and Lumsden Road
  • $3.54 at RaceTrac, 10324 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road
  • $3.55 at Hess, 915 Providence Road and Lumsden Road

For regular gas locally, the highest prices were:

  • $3.79 at BP, 10323 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road
  • $3.61 at Mobil, 936 East Bloomingdale Ave. and Bell Shoals Road
