Cheapest Gas in Brandon: May 10 Report

The search is on for the cheapest gas you can find and today’s best bet in Brandon might be these top three lowest prices found at GasBuddy.com on May 10 at 8 p.m.

The site, updated daily with visitor reports, at this reporting lists 20 stations for Brandon, with prices ranging from $3.79 to $4.35 per gallon of regular gasoline. For premium gas, prices ranged from $3.99 to $4.13 per gallon, based on visitor updates for 11 stations.

For midgrade fuel, prices ranged from $3.89 to $4.03, with reports from 10 stations.

For diesel fuel, prices ranged from $3.99 to $4.09, with five stations reported.

Nationwide, prices across the states ranged from 3.619 in Wyoming (where prices were steady) to 4.531 in Hawaii (where prices fell). Illinois was next highest at 4.292, followed by Alaska and Washington D.C. (4.254) and Connecticut (4.253).

Florida placed 22nd on the list from lowest- to-highest priced gasoline. Florida was at 3.909 (up from 3.809 on April 14). 

Overall, prices rose in 27 states, fell in six states (North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, California, Alaska and Hawaii ) and held steady in all others, including Florida.

While prices remained stable in the Tampa Bay area, they nevertheless were almost $1 dollar higher than they were a year ago (3.872 verus 2.838), according to the GasBuddy report at 7:30 p.m.

According to a map credited to the  American Petroleum Institute, gasoline taxes as of January 2011 in 16 states ranked in the highest category, "greater than 48.1." The chart looks at the combined local, state and federal taxes in cents per gallon. Florida was in that highest category (52.8). Ranking at the top and bottom of the list in that category were California (66.1) and Oregon (49.4).

For regular gas locally, the cheapest prices reported in the May 10, 8 p.m. report were:

• $3.79 at  (10921 Causeway Blvd., near Interstate 75)
• $3.79 at Sunoco (405 East Brandon Blvd. and Lithia Pinecrest Road, for cash prices)
• $3.79 at Sunoco (1301 Parsons Ave. and West Windhorst Road)
• $3.79 at BP (1302 North Parsons Ave. and Windhorst Road; $3.69 with card)
• $3.79 at Sam's Club (2021 West Brandon Blvd., near Providence Road)
• $3.79 at Marathon (503 North Parsons Ave. and East Clay Avenue)

For regular gas locally, the highest prices reported were:

• $4.35 at Farm Stores (103 Windhorst Road and Parsons Avenue)
• $3.85 at BP (10323 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road)
• $3.84 at Shell (934 Lithia Pinecrest Road and Lumsden Road)
• $3.84 at 7-Eleven (1020 South Kings and Oak Park Place)
