Cheapest Gas in Brandon: May 20 Report

Looking for the best deal for filling up your gas tank? This report aims to aid in the search.

The search is on for the cheapest gas you can find and today’s best bet in Brandon might be these top three lowest prices found at GasBuddy.com on May 20 at 12:30 p.m.

The site, updated daily with visitor reports, at this reporting lists 18 stations for Brandon, with prices ranging from $3.69 to $4.35 per gallon of regular gasoline. For premium gas, prices ranged from $3.89 to $4.56 per gallon, based on reported visitor updates for 10 stations. (The second-to-highest prices in each category were 3.85 and 4.15, respectively.)

For midgrade fuel, prices ranged from $3.88 to $4.45, with reports from nine stations. (The second-to-highest price was $4.02.)

For diesel fuel, prices ranged from $3.95 to $3.99, with reports on five stations.

Nationwide, prices across the states ranged from 3.629 in South Carolina (where prices were down) to 4.377 in Hawaii (where prices were up). Alaska was next highest at 4.271, followed by Washington D.C. (4.213) and Connecticut (4.210).

Florida placed 21st on the list from lowest- to-highest priced gasoline. Florida was at 3.824 (down from 3.909 on May 10 and up from 3.809 on April 14). 

Overall, prices rose in seven states (New Mexico, South Dakota, Vermont, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Alaska and Hawaii), remained steady in five states (New Jersey, Delaware, Nebraska, New Hampshire and Maryland) and fell in all others, including Florida.

Tampa prices were falling (3.782) and so, too, the Florida state average (3.824). Nationwide, the average was reported at 3.867.

According to a map credited to the  American Petroleum Institute, gasoline taxes as of January 2011 in 16 states ranked in the highest category, "greater than 48.1." The chart looks at the combined local, state and federal taxes in cents per gallon. Florida was in that highest category (52.8). Ranking at the top and bottom of the list in that category were California (66.1) and Oregon (49.4).

For regular gas locally, the cheapest prices reported in the May 20 report were:

  • $3.69 at , 2021 West Brandon Blvd. (near Providence Road)
  • $3.72 at , 10921 Causeway Blvd. (near Interstate 75)
  • $3.72 at RaceTrac, 10324 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road)
  • $3.72 at 7-Eleven, 1531 East Brandon Blvd. and South Mount Carmel Road
  • $3.72 at Murphy USA, at 1110 East Brandon Blvd. (near Mount Carmel Road)
  • $3.72 at RaceTrac, 810 East Brandon Blvd. and North Oakwood Avenue

For premium gas locally, the highest prices reported were:

  • $4.35 at Farm Stores (103 Windhorst Road and Parsons Avenue)
  • $3.85 at 7-Eleven (1020 South Kings and Oak Park Place)
  • $3.76 at BP (10323 South Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road)
  • $3.76 at Shell (1901 West Brandon Blvd. and Providence Road)
