Cheapest Gas in Brandon: May 24 Report

Looking for the best deal for filling up your gas tank? This report aims to aid in the search.

The search is on for the cheapest gas you can find and today’s best bet in Brandon might be these top three lowest prices found at GasBuddy.com on May 24 at 2:30p.m.

The site, updated daily with visitor reports, at this reporting lists 20 stations for Brandon, with prices ranging from $3.61 to $3.75 per gallon of regular gasoline (not including one gas station that had a much higher price that hasn’t changed in days). For premium gas, prices ranged from $3.81 to $4.11 per gallon, based on reported visitor updates for nine stations. (The second-to-highest prices in each category were 3.67 and 3.97, respectively.)

For midgrade fuel, prices ranged from $3.81 to $4.45, with reports from 10 stations. (The second-to-highest price was $3.83.)

For diesel fuel, prices ranged from $3.89 to $3.99, with reports on six stations.

Nationwide, prices across the states ranged from 3.573 in South Carolina (where prices were down) to 4.222 in Alaska (where prices were up). Mississippi was next highest at 3.621, followed by Alabama (3.631) and Tennessee (3.640).

Florida placed 23rd on the list from lowest- to-highest priced gasoline. Florida was at 3.772 (down from 3.824 on May 20 and 3.909 on May 10; up from 3.809 on April 14). 

Overall, prices rose in five states (New Mexico, Montana, South Dakota, Washington D.C. and Hawaii), remained steady in eight states (Wyoming, Virginia, New Jersey, North Dakota, Maryland, Massachusetts, Illinois and Connecticut) and fell in all others, including Florida.

Tampa prices were falling (3.733, down from 3.782 on May 20) and so, too, the Florida state average (3.772, down from 3.824). Nationwide, the average was reported at (3.817, down from 3.867).

According to a map credited to the  American Petroleum Institute, gasoline taxes as of January 2011 in 16 states ranked in the highest category, "greater than 48.1." The chart looks at the combined local, state and federal taxes in cents per gallon. Florida was in that highest category (52.8). Ranking at the top and bottom of the list in that category were California (66.1) and Oregon (49.4).

For regular gas locally, the cheapest prices reported in the May 20 report were:

  • $3.61 at Costco, 10921 Causeway Blvd. and Interstate 75
  • $3.67 at Murphy USA, 1110 East Brandon Blvd. (near Mount Carmel Road)
  • $3.67 at RaceTrac, 810 East Brandon Blvd. and North Oakwood Avenue
  • $3.67 at Citgo, 700 West Brandon Blvd. and Kings Avenue
  • $3.67 at RaceTrac, 10324 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road.

For premium gas locally, the highest prices reported were:

  • $4.11 at BR,  10323 Causeway Blvd. and South Falkenburg Road
  • $4.03 at 7-Eleven, 11015 West Bloomingdale Ave. and Providence Road
  • $4.00 at Mobil, 936 East Bloomingdale Ave. and Bell Shoals Road
  • $4.00 at Mobil, 615 West Bloomingdale Ave. and Kings Avenue
