Escort for Fallen Hero Ronald D. Freeman To Run Through Brandon

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on May 4 will escort Lance Cpl. Ronald D. Freeman from MacDill Air Force Base to a church in Thonotosassa. The escort runs through the Greater Brandon area. The Plant City soldier died April 28 in Afghanistan.

Residents of Greater Brandon and beyond are asked to line the streets today, May 4, and pay their respects to Fallen Hero Lance Cpl. Ronald D. Freeman, who died April 28 while conducting combat operations during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Freeman, 25, of Plant City, lost his life in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will escort Freeman, a Plant City High School graduate, to East Thonotosassa Baptist Church, with a route that starts at MacDill Air Force Base at 1:45 p.m. and runs through the Greater Brandon area to the church, at 12735 Knights Griffin Road.

The route in the area travels:

  • East on State Road 60,
  • North on Kingsway Road,
  • East on State Road 574,
  • North on McIntosh Road, and
  • East on Knights Griffin Road.

Freeman was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Batalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejune, N.C.

After leaving MacDill — and before reaching Brandon — the route will travel:

  • North on Bayshore Boulevard,
  • East on Platt Street Bridge,
  • North on Florida Avenue,
  • East on Jackson Street,
  • North on North Jefferson Street,
  • East on Twiggs Street,
  • East on Channelside Drive, and then
  • East on State Road 60.
