Five Things To Know (Feb. 9)

A snapshot look at some news you can use to plan your day — or the days ahead.

Here's five things to know Feb. 9, as you plan for the hours and days ahead:

  1. Dine at and honor and support the families of slain St. Petersburg police officers Sgt. Thomas Baitinger, 48, and canine officer Jeffrey Yaslowtiz, 39.  Restaurant owners plans to contribute a percentage of sales Feb. 9 to the Jeffrey Yaslowitz/Thomas Baitinger Memorial Fund.
  2. The Community Roundtable meets at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association. Center Place shares space in the Sandy Rodriguez Center with the Brandon Regional Library, at 619 Vonderburg Drive. The Roundtable at its Feb. 9 meeting will discuss its upcoming Community Affairs Dinner and planning for the Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
  3. Tickets still are on sale for the Feb. 11 concert featuring Barbara Bailey Hutchison, but they must be purchased in advance. The Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter will perform at Center Place. Tickets cost $25 per person and are nonrefundable. The concert is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Call: 813-685-8888.
  4. The Brandon branch of the meets tonight, Feb. 9, at the A center, at 885 South Parsons Avenue. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
  5. Plan your agenda for the Florida State Fair, which kicks off Feb. 10 and runs through Feb. 21. The fair is billed as “a salute to the state's best in the agriculture and equestrian industry” and includes “an abundance of shows, music, rides, food and shopping for 12 consecutive days.”
