Five Things To Know Today: State Fair, Brandon High Wrestling, Stagedoor and More

A quick look at five things to know and do — and the links you need to learn more.

  1. The Florida State Fair is open today through 10 p.m., with the Florida Center, special events and livestock shows closing at 9 p.m. To help plan your day, Brandon Patch compiled 20 . The Florida State Fair on its Web site offers a listing of more than 100 free things to see and do at the fair.
  2. The wrestling team is in Kissimmee Osceola today for the final day of regional competition. The team, under Coach Russ Cozart, is vying for its 11th consecutive state title. Finals start at 6 p.m.
  3. The cast has been set for the Stagedoor Performings Arts production of Terry Abbott’s “Neverland.” The show, written and first directed by Abbott for the Village Players, tells the story of Peter Pan. Callbacks were held Feb. 11 and Andy Tekampe, a student at Hillsborough Community College and a Newsome High graduate, landed the title role. Show dates are April 8-9, 15-16 and 22-23. The community theater troupe is in residence at South Bay Community Church in Riverview, at 13498 South U.S. Highway 301.
  4. House parents and youth counselors, full and part time, are needed at A Kid’s Place, a 60-bed facility for abused, neglected or abandoned children. The 5-acred grounds of Lithia Pinecrest Road in Brandon include five, 32,000- square-feet homes. Job description, requirements and application particulars are available online at the  facility’s Web site.
  5. The is accepting reservations for its Valentine’s Day Dinner, with seatings at 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The cost is $22.95 per person and includes a candle-lit dinner, flowers for the ladies and a picture of the couple.
