Frugal Family: More for Less in Brandon

In good times and bad the thrill of the hunt for offers and savings and specials and deals can never be overrated. And when times are tough, budgets are tight, hours are scarce and incomes barely hold steady, the hunt for incentives takes on an even greater importance.

That’s where we come in.

We promise to do our part with five local deals we’ll post in the “Frugal Family” column every Wednesday at Brandon Patch. You’ll find, too, similar columns at are neighboring Patch publications should your travels take you across town, across Tampa Bay or even across the nation.

But right here, close to home, we’ll give you some news you can use to save both money and time, since we do the initial scouting for you.

• Deal:  Shop for deals on jewelry ($1, $2, $3, $5 and $8). An online review notes: "If Claire's Accessories had an older sister, I believe she'd be named Beya."

• Deal: learance items noted online. In-store prices on the same items, if available, would be the same, if the item is available. Call ahead to check availability and prices if you plan to shop on site.

• Deal: In exchange for enrollment in DD Perks, get one, free medium beverage (iced or hot coffee, tea or latte, hot chocolate or "Coolatta"). Another free medium beverage on your birthday. Email signup required for drink deal and exclusive online and in-store offers and perks.

• Deal:Forty-three items featured in the latest weekly ad for BOGO's (buy- one get one-free deals). Items featured include Breyers ice cream, Bertolli pasta sauce, Nabisco Honey Maid graham crackers, Goodlife Recipe food for cats and Ricola throat drops or lozenges.

• Deal:  Advance discount ticket sales for the upcoming Florida Strawberry Festival, March 3-13, in Plant City. Save $2 on each adult ticket purchased and $1 on each youth ticket purchase. (Regular price: $10 for adults (ages 13 and up) and $5 for youth. Discounted price: $8 for adults, $4 for youth).

• Bonus Note: Through Feb. 28, a portion of each strawberry purchase will be donated to the American Heart Association
